Johnson City & Carolina Railway
AKA the Embreeville Branch
The Johnson City and Carolina Railway was the legal name and entity of the Embreeville Branch of the East Tennessee Virginia & Georgia Railroad. The branch ran from Johnson City to Embreeville where iron mines and a furnace were established. The ETV&G and the Embreeville Branch eventually became part of the Southern Railway.
Later around 1905, the Southern Railway explored using the Johnson City & Carolina/Embreeville Branch as the initial segment of a route across the Blue Ridge Mountains from Johnson City to Marion NC. This new railroad was called the Johnson City Southern Railway. Eventually, after losses in court, the Southern abandoned the project.
